Every spot on the team except the four leadership positions is earned at tryouts each fall.
How tryouts work
Tryouts are held each year when students return to campus, usually the last weekend of August or the first weekend of September.
Day one
18 holes of stroke play.
Day two
18 more holes. Scores are totaled over all 36.
The team
10 spots are filled from tryouts and join the four elected leaders.
What membership includes
Team members pay annual dues of $500 to $1,000, which cover all player expenses. That includes a full membership to the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, MA, a challenging Donald Ross design with a driving range, short game area and putting green.
Members also receive a package of UMass Golf apparel and equipment. The team competes across the country, with travel expenses covered by the university.
